Are You Interested in Running for Council?

Summer Village of Yellowstone Council is comprised of three Councillors who serve a four-year term.  Individuals can put their names forward as candidates in each municipal election on Nomination Day.  In order to qualify for nomination as a Councillor in a Summer Village, a person is not required to be a resident of the Summer Village but must be entitled to vote in the election and have been a resident of Alberta for the 12 consecutive months immediately preceding Election Day.  Once elected, members of Council will organize their positions as Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Councillor amongst themselves at their annual organizational meeting.

Councillors are responsible to:

-Set the overall strategic direction of the Summer Village;
-Set and develop policies and bylaws;
-Provide guidelines for the Administration to follow as it runs the municipality;
-Represent the Summer Village on various boards and committees; and
-Attend monthly Council meetings and vote on various matters.

General Election Information

2021 is a general election year for the Summer Village and all three (3) Council positions are open to receive nominations. If you are interested in running for Council, you can find election packages and additional information on the Summer Village website – or you can make arrangements to pick up hard copies at the administration office. As there is a requirement to include several supporting signatures from those electors nominating a candidate, we encourage interested individuals to get their forms as soon as possible – especially as COVID-19 makes meeting and acquiring these signatures more difficult than in past years.

Election Dates:
Nomination Day:   Saturday July 17th, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Election Day:        Saturday August 14th, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Advance Vote:      Thursday, August 5th, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
